Apollo Global Management has surpassed $1tn in assets under management for the first time and is piloting a daily valuation approach for private credit assets to address opacity and boost investor confidence amidst increasing regulatory scrutiny.
Apollo Global Management has crossed the $1tn mark in assets under management for the first time, and is moving to give some of its private markets business a daily price in a push to make opaque credit assets easier to value.
Speaking on the firm’s first-quarter results call on 6 May, chief executive Marc Rowan said Apollo had begun a pilot programme to mark private asset portfolios on a daily basis, arguing that private markets should be repriced as public markets move. The initiative is designed to deepen trust and improve transparency for investors, particularly in parts of the credit market that have historically been valued less frequently.
Apollo said total assets under management rose 31% from a year earlier to $1.03tn at 31 March 2026, helped by record first-quarter inflows of $115bn. The firm’s own release said fee-related earnings and client activity both hit new highs, while Bloomberg reported adjusted net income of $1.21bn, or $1.94 per share, above analyst forecasts.
Much of the growth came from Apollo’s asset management arm, which posted $95bn of inflows, supported by Athora’s acquisition of Pension Insurance Corporation in the UK, as well as institutional and wealth demand for credit strategies. The retirement services business added a further $20bn, with Apollo pointing to activity across retail, flow reinsurance and funding agreements.
Rowan used the call to defend private credit from recent criticism, saying the debate has focused too narrowly on leveraged lending while missing the much larger investment-grade private credit opportunity. He also pointed to a more active approach to valuation and market-making, saying Apollo had already moved to provide estimated daily values for parts of its investment-grade fixed income suite and was extending that framework across direct lending and asset-backed finance.
By Apollo’s timetable, daily pricing for corporate investment-grade fixed income assets is due by 6:30pm ET, with direct lending and asset-backed finance marked by 9:30pm ET. The firm has also been working with ICE on private-credit data standards, a step Rowan said would help normalise pricing and improve market infrastructure.
The move comes as regulators and policymakers pay closer attention to the fast-growing private credit sector. The Financial Stability Board warned on 6 May that the market’s rapid expansion brings benefits but also creates vulnerabilities, including valuation opacity, data gaps and tighter links between asset managers, banks, insurers and private equity firms.
Apollo said its first-quarter origination reached $71bn, which Rowan described as high quality, and he indicated the second quarter could approach the company’s record quarterly pace. The firm reaffirmed its 2026 outlook for 20% fee-related earnings growth and 10% spread-related earnings growth, while Rowan said Apollo remains positioned to withstand market stress even as it leans into areas such as investment-grade credit.
